Field Trip for MSc First Year Students
One day field trip was organized for MSc first year students in last friday ( Sep 03, 2010). Alltogether 31 students, 4 teaching staffs (Prof. Mohan Siwakoti - Taxonomist, Dr. Chitra Bahadur Baniya - Ecologist and Lichenologist, Mr. Bharat Babu Shrestha - Ecologist and Mr. Shiva Devkota - Wild Mushrooms Expert) and Sambhu Dai as a plant collector were present in the group. Real field trip was started near by St. Xavier School, Godavary and reached upto 1900m altitude. In the course, students got ideas about the collection of higher plants, mushrooms, lichens bryophytes and ecological parameters. Mild rain during mid- day and heavy rain in the evening made the trip more memorable. Students were busy in collecting specimens to prepare herbarium. It was interesting that within this short range, students were able to collect about 30 different species of wild mushrooms. Russula, Collibia, Boletus, Tricholoma, Microlepiota, Clavaria, Xylaria and polypores were the major collections among the mushrooms. In the same day students also visited National Herbarium (KATH).
