Farewell and Felicitation Program to Dr. John D All (Visiting Fulbright Professor)

 Central Department of Botany (CDB, TU) organized a Farewell cum Felicitation program on June 23, 2010 to Dr. John D. All, Visiting Fulbright Professor, Western Kentucky University, USA. He spent about 10 months from August 2009 to June 2010 associated with Central Department of Botany, TU.

Prof Dr Soorya Lal Amatya , Rector of Tribhuvan University (TU), as the chief guest of the program, highlighted the importance of the visiting professor in TU. Prof Dr Krishna K Shrestha, Head of the department appreciated the contribution of Dr. All for the department. Former Head, Prof. Dr. Sanu Devi Joshi and BoSS President, Mr. Mandata Acharya also extend their warm farewell words. Dr. All shared his experience in Nepal and his eagerness to visit this beautiful country again.
Dr. All has a PhD in Geography and Global Climate change, a JD in International Environmental Law, and a Master’s Certificate in Environmental Ethics. In his scarce free time, Dr All is a photographer and alpinist who has climbed on four continents using technical rock, ice and aid-climbing techniques. He reached the top of Mount Everest on May 23, 2010.
During his tenure in this department, he has made some significant contributions. Some important achievements are:
  • Establishment and initiation of GIS and Remote Sensing Lab in the department.
  • Provided field level research ideas and methodologies to several students of this department and few of them are doing dissertations under his guidance.
  • Visited five National parks (Chitwan NP, Langtang NP, Makalu Barun NP, Sagarmatha NP and Shivapuri Nagarjun NP) out of nine and two conservation areas (Manaslu CA and Annapurna CA) out of six during his stay in Nepal and collected lots of spatial datas.
  • Provided 10 days long GIS/RS training to the researchers from different institutions of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts.
  • Provided week long GIS/RS training to the BEM students of this department.
