International Biodiversity Day (May 22, 2010) Celebrated - Exhibition on "Biodiversity and Sustainable Use of Biological Resources"

To mark the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) the Central Department of Botany, Tribhuvan University, with the support of the Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation, organized an exhibition on "Biodiversity and Sustainable Use of Biological Resources" in the premises of Central Department of Botany, on May 22-23, 2010 (Jestha 8-9, 2067). In the same day inauguration of the Ph.D. research lab established in the department with the financial support of University Grants Commission, Nepal was also inaugurated.
 
The honorable guests of the programs were Mr. Yuba R. Bhusal (Secretary, Ministry of Forest and Sopil Conservation), Prof. Madhav P. Sharma (VC, TU) and Dr. Kamal K. Joshi (Chairman, UGC).
In particular, the exhibition was focused to eexplores the multiple aspects of biodiversity contributing to human well-being; and demonstrated how the global community is working to ensure its conservation and sustainable use now and in the future. The exhibition was intended for multiple visitors, including policy- and decision-makers, conservation practitioners, museums and educational institutions. Almost 2000 visitors visited the 2 days long program.
 
Major attractions of the exhibition were Plant Diversity (From lower groups to higher groups), Animals/Birds Diversity (Stalls of Natural History Museum and Central Department of Zoology, TU), Drawing Competition, Quiz Contest, Documentary Film show, GIS and Remote Sensing Applications, Systematics and Ethnobotany, Ecology and Environment, Biotechnology and Biochemistry, Pathology and Applied Mycology, Climate Change issues and Biodiversity Conservation.
