Training Workshop on "Design and Analysis of Experiments"

Start Date:
Tue, 2010-08-17 10:45 - Wed, 2010-08-18 17:30
Venue:
Central Department of Botany, TU

Mr. Kumar Mainali, a former student of CDB TU, and currently a PhD scholar at the University of Texas, US has offered to give a training  workshop on Statistics, especially for the PhD Scholars of TU. In this context, the Central Department of TU is organizing a training workshop on  "Design and Analysis of Experiments", from August 17-18th, 2010 (Bhadra 1-2, 2067) at CDB TU. This intensive training program runs for 7 hrs a day, from 10:30 AM -5:30 PM. The program schedule/ Syllabus and Guide to SPSS program are also mentioned herewith for circulation.

Participants should pay attention to the following:

1) The workshop runs 7 hrs a day (with two tea breaks) everyday for 2-3 days. It does not benefit you much if you plan to be there some of the time. If you are not completely sure about attending the workshop all the time, you should probably let others take your seat.

2) You will work on your laptop. Two people can easily share a laptop.

3) Most of the analyses will be done in SPSS 16. Please install the software.

4) Get used to the basic operations in SPSS BEFORE you come to the class. It really saves our time that could be used in discussing important issues in statistics. Please go over chapters 1, 2, 3 and 5 in "SPSS Statistics 17.0 Brief Guide"

5) The workshop will take place in the campus of TU, Kirtipur. Power will be supplied during loadshedding. However, come to the class with your laptop fully charged.

6) Many Nepalese biologists need multiple regression and PCA more than other tools. However, checking assumptions and model validation takes a long time. So, we will go over only basic stuff on regression and PCA in class (and, analyze a dataset). We will go over the tools in more details as a google group from September 2010.

7) Please contact Dr KK Shrestha for any question regarding the course and participation: kk.shrestha@cdbtu.edu.np
