GIS/RS Training Workshop, Supported by University Grants Commission, Nepal

Ten days training (February 25 to March 05, 2010) workshop on “GIS and Remote Sensing applications in natural resource management” was organized in Central Department of Botany. The workshop was supported by University Grants Commission (UGC)/Nepal. The program was formally inaugurated by Dr Kamal K Joshi (Chairman, UGC).

 

The instructor was Dr John D All (Fulbright Visiting Professor) from Western Kentucky University (USA). He was assisted by Mr Kamal Humagain throughout the workshop. Altogether 24 participants from different institutions attended the program. They visited ICIMOD to learn more about GIS techniques one day. The participants were evaluated at last based on their performance and top three of them Mr. Shiva Devkota, CDB TU (First); Mrs. Sheetal Vaidya, Patan Multiple Campus, TU (Second) and Ms. Sangeeta Rajbhandary, CDB, TU (Third) received special gift along with ArcGIS software from Dr All.

 

During the closing ceremony, Chief Guest Prof. Binod K Shrestha (Member secretary, UGC) appreciated the program and distributed the certificates to the participants. Moreover, Guest of Honour Prof Mukunda Prasad Gajurel (Dean, Institute of Science and Technology, TU) added the importance of GIS and Remote Sensing kinds of programs in the modern education of Tribuvan University. As a chairperson of the program Prof Dr Krishna K Shrestha (Head, Central Department of Botany, TU) elaborated the necessity of this workshop and thanked UGC for their support.
